Our client, a small business owner, is extremely busy between running her growing firm and raising a family. She was finding herself stressed and didn’t feel like she was sleeping well. She wanted to look into meditation apps to see if there was something out there that would help her focus during the day, but also sleep better at night, so that she didn’t feel as stressed out and tired, and could feel ready to tackle everything on her plate every day!
Meet the Calm App. The Calm app has guided meditations, music specifically curated for focus and relaxation, video lessons on mindful movement and gentle stretching, and sleep stories to lull users into the best sleep they’ve ever had! There are free and pro version (starting at $12.99/month) and it is compatible with Apple and Android devices. There are even Calm shops at most major US airports, where users can stop in and get free gifts and exclusive offers before their flights!
Any time our client is feeling particularly stressed, she can open her Calm app and use the guided meditation feature (which she loves) to have a quick moment to just breath and reflect as a sort of “mental reset” to rejuvinate her so that she can focus on the task at hand. She also enjoys using the music feature while she is working for nice, calm, background ambiance. She reported that she was skeptical of the sleep stories at first, but after the first night listening to one, she’s hooked. She said “I don’t even remember what the story was about, but I got the best sleep in years!!”. She also loves the Calm for Kids feature, which helps her little ones relax when they are wound up, and also has sleep stories for kids.
How We Helped
Our job here was really to help her identify a solution that would work for her. We got to work researching apps and tools that focus on mindfulness, stress-relief and increased sleep quality, and Calm was hands-down the highest rated and most suggested solution out there. Once we identified it, we sent her the link and simple instructions, she downloaded it from the app store and started using it right away. Who couldn’t use a little more Calm in their life?
