Delegate Shares the Love with The National Alliance to End Homelessness

I’m choosing the National Alliance to End Homelessness as my charity. While circumstances can vary, the main reason people experience homelessness is because they can’t find housing they can afford. There's many reasons why people become homeless, some of which they can’t control. They include loss of employment, divorce, long-term illness, domestic violence, substance abuse, institutional discharge and many other factors that make it difficult, if not impossible, for people to pay rent or make mortgage payments.

Delegate Shares the Love with Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice!

We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” - Winston Churchill

At Delegate, we believe that the power of one is expanded by the strengths of many. Our mission is to help you do more of what you love to have an even stronger impact on the world.

It is this passion for helping others that drives us internally as a team as well. Each month in addition to our team-wide contribution to our selected charity, Women for Women International, we select one team member and support their favorite charity through donation and promotion.

Dawn is our winner this month, and she chose to donate to Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice!

There are few things in life that are more difficult to deal with than a sick family member. The emotional and physical toll it takes on the caregiver is immeasurable. For me and my family, Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice was there to help us care for both of my parents. The attention, care and support they provide is remarkable and I will be forever grateful to them for helping us get through such difficult times. - Dawn

A bit more about this awesome charity…

Samaritan Healthcare and Hospice - When Dame Cecily Saunders, the founder of the modern hospice movement, spoke in Philadelphia in the late '70's, she inspired a group of local volunteers led by Dr. Agnes Gowdy. They dedicated themselves to introducing this comforting kind of end-of-life care to South Jersey in 1980. Their grassroots efforts, even before Congress authorized Medicare payments for hospice care, created the organization today known as Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice.

Samaritan is named a 2014 Hospice Honors recipient. This prestigious award recognizes hospices providing excellent patient care based on 18 quality measures – as rated by our patients' caregivers. Established by Deyta, this designation recognizes hospices that continuously provide the highest level of satisfaction through their care as measured from the caregiver’s point of view. Samaritan is one of only three New Jersey hospices and 194 nationwide out of 1700 participating hospices to earn this distinction in 2014.

Renovations at the Samaritan Inpatient Hospice Center in Mount Holly enhance its comfortable, home-like setting. Patients and families now receive care in one of 12 private rooms instead of the previous eight private and two semi-private rooms.

Samaritan achieves the highest four-star status in the national We Honor Veterans programone of only 4 hospices in New Jersey – and one of 179 nationwide to earn this prestigious designation.

Delegate Shares the Love with Remote Access Medical!

Cathy is our winner this month, and she chose to donate to Remote Access Medical!

"Our community was fortunate enough to benefit from a RAM clinic last April and my daughter and I were able to volunteer. It was truly amazing what was accomplished. We were in the dental section and at the minimum 30 dental "operatories" were set up with patients funneled through them, receiving everything from cleanings, to fillings to extractions! Clinics generally start at 6 in the morning but patients often line up the night before and sit, even in frigid temperatures, waiting for their chance to get the medical care they have needed for a long time. We volunteered on the final day and I spoke with so many children who had waited EACH DAY with their families for their opportunity for care - there was that many in need.” – Cathy

A bit more about this awesome charity…

Remote Access Medical (RAM) brings free-of-charge medical care to those in need, without discrimination. Many of the people they serve are homeless or impoverished, most have no medical coverage whatsoever and never get the medical, dental or vision care that they so desperately need. RAM sets up their mobile clinic in busy cities as well as isolated communities. They even serve internationally.

The mobile clinic is set up in 24 hours and hundreds of volunteers will spend the next 3 days serving as many patients as possible. They've set up in schools, community centers, fair grounds and even NASCAR Speedways! Once set up, they rely on local healthcare providers, as well as non-medical volunteers, to give their time serving the people who need them most. RAM brings ALL the necessary equipment - all they need are the volunteers and the patients!

Delegate Shares the Love with Project Linus!

Emily is our winner this month, and she chose to donate to Project Linus!

"For some reason, my 18mo son has become really attached to his blankets. He will go to his crib and pull it through the slats, and then proceeds to chew on the tag while carrying it around the house. At first, I just thought it was just something cute he did, until one day when I picked him up from the sitter's house. I always keep a blanket in the diaper bag, but the day before I had taken it out to wash it. The sitter told me he didn't have a very good nap because he didn't have his blankie. She tried to give him a different one, but he wasn't having it. I was floored- I had no idea how attached he was to his blankets. I realized then how much security it provided him. If a simple blanket can do this for other children, there's no reason they shouldn't have one. For many children, this might be the one thing that can give them comfort. ” – Emily G., her son pictured right, with his blanket.

A bit more about this awesome charity…

Project Linus National Headquarters is located in Bloomington, Illinois. National President Carol Babbitt and Vice President Mary Balagna direct and orchestrate the activities of Project Linus chapters located across the United States. Both have been involved with the organization since late 1998, as chapter coordinators and now as directors and officers. They also maintain a very busy Central Illinois chapter, donating an average of 350 blankets every month to local children. With chapters in all 50 states, Project Linus continues to grow. Blankets are collected locally and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere that a child might be in need of a big hug.
