How to Get Anything Done

HELLO | TWELVE, AUGUST 2020

Happy Friday! I hope that Summer is treating you well. Here in NJ we have been busy outside enjoying our pool and raising CHICKENS! Yes, my family and I are now raising backyard hens, as we are in search of fresh eggs!

We have 4 silkie hens and I have been working behind the scenes with my township to change the ordinance to allow for backyard hens. Our refreshed, more liberal ordinance just got passed and I'm now the official Chair of our Backyard Hen Advisory Board.. so if you have chicken related questions, I'm happy to help! :)

A New Addition to Our Family

HELLO | TWELVE, NOVEMBER 2018

Happy Friday and welcome to the start of another beautiful month! I hope this gorgeous Fall season is treating you well. This time 12 years ago, I was about to have my son Nathan. As a mom, I remember the planning, the labor, the delivery and the sudden "parent" status - all of it a whirlwind experience. As an entrepreneur, bringing a new service or product line to market carries a similar weight for me. The excitement, joy, challenge and uncertainty all mirror my path into motherhood all those years ago.

Hope you are sliding into Fall feeling equally as energized. Inbox dread. We’ve all experienced it. After a weekend away, or even a lunch break, and you dread seeing your inbox filled again. That’s 11.7 hours spent at work and 5.3 hours at home — every week. I don’t know about you but I would gladly spend those 17 hours NOT in my inbox. Not only is it a drain on time it’s a drain on energy.

Our TOP 3 tips to clear your bottlenecks around delegation!

1 - Start small, build confidence.  Focus on compartmentalizing larger tasks and projects into small parts to build your own confidence around delegation. Do you want to hand off your calendar scheduling?

Don’t get overwhelmed by the big picture of doing so; instead segment it out.  Ask yourself which part of my schedule could be most easily delegated or automated? Perhaps a first small step is to deploy a scheduling tool for your internal team meetings only.  Just this shift alone will help you add framework to your day by creating specific blocks of time you are available to meet, and it takes the back and forth out of when to meet.   Grab the small wins! It still equates to time saved, and you’ll build confidence in this phase.

4 Ways To Declare Your Independence

All entrepreneurs can remember back to the days when we had a 9-5 job, a boss, a steady paycheck and lots of PTO.  We left that life behind in search of independence, risk with reward, and a spirit of “why can’t I?” So how is it that now instead we work 7-7, have to manage complicated staff relations ourselves, our paycheck is variable, and PTO is laughable at best?  This “job” that we have created for ourselves is compromising our independence and what we fought so fiercely for.
