Instagram is the same way. On Instagram, images look beautiful, can build your brand and create relationships but there needs to be an audience there to see your images
Start following people. Follow the brands and people you love. Try to target brands and people that produce content that excites you and attracts your ideal target market. Instagram has started suggesting users and brands based on people you follow and the things you like. Give the suggested users a shot.
The best way to get followers is to engage with your people. Liking pictures and commenting on posts is the number one way to create relationships with your future fans. Ask about where the photo was taken or for more information – people want to talk about their pics so it is an easy way to start a conversation.
Using hashtags is the best way to get focused search results leading directly to your posts. Hashtags categorize posts around that topic. Popular hashtags like #love, #smile #food and #amazing get used a lot but I recommend using hashtags that are very targeted toward your brand and what you do because you want to use hashtags that won’t get buried under new posts in an hour. You can also create your own hashtag! Encourage your fans to use your special hashtag whenever they’re using your product or in your store or your restaurant taking pictures. A great hashtag can be an inexpensive and brilliant trick for branding and gaining followers.
Keep the conversation going. When someone comments on your picture… RESPOND. Thank them. Start a conversation. Get the ball rolling. Other people will join in and before you know it, you’re having a party with your fans! People remember good conversations and you’re in charge of keeping the talk moving.
5. TAKE GOOD PICTURES
This seems like a no-brainer, but I’m sure you have seen poor photos in your Instagram feed! Take a look at the pictures that you like that elicit a genuine reaction and follow their lead. People tend to respond well to the usual suspects: beautifully plated food, nicely designed spaces, puppies, kittens and smiling babies but not every post can have those things, so try to focus on compelling content that will make someone stop mid-scroll and like your photo. Pay attention to lighting and don’t be afraid to have fun. Instagram also has a suite of filters that can make any picture look professionally. If you’re not sure which filter to use, you can always live a little and go without one!
Did you know that you can connect your Instagram account with your Facebook account so that every time you post on Instagram it will post on Facebook as well? This way, you’re getting an extra set of eyes on your Instagram page and connecting fans that may have missed your post!
